Job Fair is in the Air!

Posted on the 12 February 2012 by Hreric @myhreric

Job fairs are often sponsored by schools and government agencies particularly the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) of cities and municipalities in the Philippines.  The Department of labor and Employment (DOLE) also conducts their own job fairs in coordination with PESO and some institutions.

Job fairs provide opportunities for student because it will provide them better and easy access of job opportunities.  For most students, job fairs is their first real hand experience in applying for a job.

In a job fair, most companies accepts applications.  But there are some companies that conduct interview and pre-qualifying examination to applicants.  So it is important that once you join the job fair, you are well prepared.

Here are some tips for you to remember when joining a job fair:

  • Prepare enough resumes as you can.  You never know how many job vacancies you will be applying.  Don’t forget to attached a picture.  In the previous month, how to effectively make a resume was featured in a series of posts.
  • If you have a copy of your Transcript of Records, have it reproduced and attached it to your resume. Most companies require the submission of TOR.
  • Dress up properly.  Make your first impression with the recruiters.  Wear a formal or executive attire.
  • For ladies, wear a light make-up and lipstick.  Comb your hair properly.  Again one of your purposes in doing this is to make a positive first impression and of course get noticed.
  • For men, make sure you have a proper haircut and well-shaved.  Do not wear earrings.   I had been into different job fairs and I noticed some men are wearing earrings while applying.  Its a big turn-off for recruiters.
  • Show confidence when you hand in your application.  Most recruiters are observing applicants and how they carry themselves.
  • Greet the recruiter upon approaching them.
  • Smile.  Display a happy and relaxed face.

Remember, in any job fairs that you will participate, think always that your best opportunity is there.  THINK POSITIVELY that you can successfully look for a job.

Have the patience to wait and line up in different companies.  It is not only you who is applying, there are thousands out there who are jobless.  That is why you have to package yourself well to have a better chance of being hired.

As a parting shot, Lord Chesterfield said  ”Patience is a most necessary qualification for business”.  Looking for a job is a business.  You sell yourself, your future at stake.  so don’t take chances.  Give your best shot at it.
