Jerome Godboo – Eye on You

Posted on the 12 February 2014 by Hendrik Pape @soundcheckblg

To Spin Doctors’ fans the name Eric Schenkman should be very familiar and if you live anywhere in the Thousand Islands the name River City Junction should be very familiar to you as well.  Recently these two entities crossed paths with renowned blues artist Jerome Godboo at the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery’s Standeasy in Kingston Ontario.  Jason Fryer of River City Junction describes the experience:

On February 1st of this year, We had the honor & pleasure of opening up for renowned Blues artist Jerome Godboo & Eric Schenkman of the Spin Doctors at a very intimate show held at the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery’s Standeasy in Kingston Ontario by the Kingston Blues Society. Caroline sat it on drums for him & at the end of the night, he called me up to play a couple for songs for him. My friend & yoga Guru Dan DeLuis had my iPhone on him & he recorded the two songs to video. What he captured is a very special moment in time that we’re thrilled to share with you. Jerome & Eric are both unbelievably talented musicians & showmen alike & it was as much a learning experience to me as it was pure bliss to perform with such stellar players. I laugh whenever I watch these videos (Second one is uploading right now) because I can see in my face at times how blown away & taken I am with these guys. At one point in our rendition of Not Fade Away, I even stopped playing cause I was just so done in by Jerome’s harp playing & the interplay between him & Eric. Eric’s tone had me almost going out of my mind & the way we all grooved, was just like riding a huge wave of feel all the way to the promised land. I know it’s never quite the same as being there in person, but I sure am happy that Dan picked up the iPhone & captured these moments for us because I will cherish them every day for the rest of my time on this beautiful planet. We’ve played close to a thousand shows by now if not more, & some of them have been quite big, but I am always surprised at how much I prefer the smaller, more intimate settings. The interaction with the people, the sound, the vibe, there’s just nothing like it. This night in particular was truly one of the high points in my music career & I am so grateful that I’ll have it to share with my grandchildren & those to come for future generations.
