Traditional and classic

What did you wear?

Jayne wore an ivory full length French taffeta gown, made by Jonathan James Couture. It had a fitted plain bodice with A-line skirt and long train with pick me ups and flowers throughout. There was a single matching flower at the top of the bodice. For church Jayne wore a small ¾ quarter length sleeve lace stole with full-length veil and ivory pearl comb at the front of her hair, which was pinned up.

The veil came off for the wedding breakfast and then for the evening reception the train was shortened, jacket removed and a halter neck strap attached to change the look to a more casual feel for the evening.

Jayne also wore a simple bracelet which was borrowed from the mother of the bride, diamond stud earrings and wedding rings. Her shoes were from Rainbow, and were ivory satin with tiny pearl shaped flowers. She carried something old: a penny in her shoe, something blue – the words ‘I do’ in blue rhinestones stuck to bottoms of her shoes.

Steven wore navy pinstripe trousers, a navy tail jacket, ivory cravat, handkerchief and waistcoat. (Other groomsmen wore navy cravats and handkerchiefs)

Tell us a little about your wedding venue styling and details:

Jayne’s bridesmaids wore long navy fishtail dresses with navy shrugs and carried ivory roses with matching flowers in their hair. The matching color theme throughout was navy with ivory flowers. All the gents wore navy tails.

The wedding cars were traditional old classic ivory cars. Our cake was a 4 tier ivory wedding cake with flowers on the top. The decoration at the reception was candelabras and flowers as centrepieces with candles throughout the other rooms. We also had navy tiebacks on chairs, and Green & Blacks chocolates for favours.

Invitations and reception stationery:

From the Letterpress of Circencester. We chose a classic ivory, traditional invite with navy bow with reply slip etc. Our name places, table plan, menus and order of service all matched, also table names which were Krispy Kreme donut flavours in honour of the groom’s obsession with them!

Wedding music and entertainment:

A string quartet played in church for the arrival of our guests and for the bride’s entrance (Pachelbel Canon D), signing of registering and exit. Then they also played at the drinks reception.

A band called Harlequin provided entertainment for the first dance and main part of the evening playing a mixture of old classics and modern tunes, then a DJ played until the early hours.

Memorable wedding day moments:

For the bride: my wonderful bridesmaids taking the greatest care of me; the nerves when pulling up to the church. My godson, a pageboy, telling me Uncle Steve was waiting for me at the front for me when I arrived at the church. Seeing Steve as I walked down the aisle and just being surrounding by so much love and joy all day.

For the groom: The surreal feeling seeing all the guests in the pub before the wedding; seeing Jayne walk up the aisle, walking out the church seeing everyone smiling and clapping and having a quiet moment with the wife just before walking in to the wedding breakfast room.

Recommended wedding suppliers:

  • Vickerstaff Photography!! Lovely, thoughtful, personable, patient, and the photographs are fantastic!!
  • Jonathan James Couture – Ivory lounge in Chester is their flagship shop and the lady who runs it — the designer’s mom — is just the most wonderful person who makes you feel like a proper bride!
  • Rowton Hall in Chester – great place to have a wedding reception – they look after you and make everything so personal!
  • Darren Tyler Hairdressing in Cronton – he opened especially early for me and my entourage of bridesmaids and he and his staff were an absolute gem in the run up with one very stressed nervous bride!
