A new law in Michigan will allow bars to stay open and provide entertainment until 4 a.m. The law is not designed to lengthen liquor sales but to allow patrons to sober up before driving home. Alcohol sales will still stop at 2 a.m. The extra time gives people the chance to metabolize a few drinks and will hopefully result in less difficulties with impaired driving. The bill passed both houses and needs the Governor's signature.

Those who live in a state that doesn't allow alcohol sales on Sunday (they don't think the Lord had a cocktail while resting on the seventh day?) know what it's like to forget to plan ahead and be left drink less on a Sunday. Texas is one of those states but there is a fight to change the law. There is a bill in the state congress to allow Sunday sales. Supporters site customer convenience and increased tax revenue as the benefits of the bill. The bill's sponsor said it best I don't believe the state should tell businesses when to be open. The great state of Tennessee has a new whiskey on the block: Benjamin Prichard. While not directly tied to the 1800's brewery of Prichard by anything other than name, it is a solid attempt at adding to the style of Tennessee whiskeys. The early reviews are favorable so pick up a bottle when you get a chance.
Just by Name
It's illegal to distill in Chattanooga Tennessee, so a couple of locals set up shop in Indiana, but that didn't stop them from using the name Chattanooga Whiskey Company. Using recipes similar to pre-prohibition styles of bourbon, the company looks to have bottles available in early 2012 so keep an eye out for it.
Texas Gin
Treaty Oak Distillery near Austin Texas has just released a new gin. It's a combination of traditional London Dry Gin ingredients with some native Texas botanicals mixed in to make it unique. It's less astringent than typical gin and quite original so try some if you find yourself in the Republic of
Austin.
Now Fido can party
It has been long known that hops are bad for dogs so beer is a no go for your canine friend despite the fact that some dogs really want to beer. Now available online and becoming popular is Bowser beer, a brew especially for dogs. It contains malts like regular beer but has no alcohol and the hops are replaced with beef or chicken. Now your best friend can enjoy a cold one with you safely.

Boston Beer Co., makers of Samuel Adams and the largest craft brewer in America with 2 million barrels a year, has some new types hitting the market. Griffin's Bow is an oaked blonde ale weighing in at 11.5% abv, a chocolate chili bock called Vixen will burn your throat a bit, a red IPA called Tasman Red and a double IPA called Third Voyage.

Dogfish Head has previously released limited edition beer tributes to musicians Miles Davis and Robert Johnson. This time around they are selling
Faithfull ale a 7% abv strong golden Belgian style ale from the Duval mold. It's a 20th anniversary tribute to the band Pearl Jam, so get some of this rare treat while it lasts.
