Jameson Cold Brew Review

By Josh Peters @TheWhiskeyJug

Take some standard Jameson Irish Whiskey, add some Arabica coffee from Brazil and Colombia and you get the Jameson Cold Brew. And, the best part is… no added sugar. This low ABV coffee and whiskey drink is awesome in coffee or on its own with some ice and a splash of heavy cream. But we’re not to talk about it mixed, we’re here to talk about it straight out of the bottle – neat.

Jameson Cold Brew Review

I know I’m ruining the review a tad by saying I like it up here, but I don’t give scores to flavored whiskey and that’s essentially what this is, so there won’t be a score at the bottom. Instead, this is just my thoughts on a product I’m enojying. And, unless you’re denser than a whiskey somm, you should be picking up the vibe that those thoughts are pretty dang positive.

Tasting Notes

EYE
Reddish rusty brown

NOSE
Nutty, coffee, fruity and a touch malty and coppery. It smells like what its, coffee mixed with Jameson, and that’s awesome. I was worried it would be cloying.

PALATE
Coffee, nuts, fruit, malt, whiskey spice and a touch of copper. Jameson Cold Brew tastes like what you hope/want it to and I’m loving that. I’m so glad it’s not weighed down with sugar.

FINISH
Long -> Coffee, fruity, nuts and a coffee fade

BALANCE, BODY and FEEL
Great, medium, oily

Jameson Cold Brew – Overall Thoughts and Score

This is exactly what it should be, just coffee and whiskey – it’s lovely. When I first saw this hit the market I thought it was a sugary liqueur and it was going to be bogged down with sugar. Some sickly sweet thing that would could only be used sparingly in cocktails and possibly undrinkable on its own. I’m beyond elated to be wrong.

I used it to make a Revolver Cocktail, and it was delicious. I’m not a fan of super sweet drinks, I have the opposite of a sweet tooth, so making a low ABV, sugarless, Revolver was fantastic and hit the spot perfectly as a pre-dinner cocktail. I also tried just shaking it up with some heavy cream, mint, and ice in a shaker and then pouring it over a cube of ice on a warm Saturday afternoon and again, it was perfect. I hope they keep this going.

SCORE: N/A – (no scores for flavored whiskeys, but I obviously love it)
