Jameson Caskmates IPA Review

By Josh Peters @TheWhiskeyJug

Jameson Caskmates IPA

I’m a big fan of the Caskmates series and so when I walked into my local Bevmo and found this Jameson Caskmates IPA on the shelves I got more than a little excited because I also happen to be an IPA fan. And since I’m not much of a stout fan and loved the Caskmates Stout this one has to be infinitely better right? Well you know what they say about assumptions…

This whiskey is pretty straightforward. It’s traditional Jameson finished in craft IPA barrels, so on to the Jameson Caskmates IPA review.

Jameson Caskmates IPA Review – OVERALL

So far the Jameson Caskmates IPA is my least favorite of the Caskmates series. It’s not bad by any means, I truly enjoy it, but it’s just not something I’d be reaching for with the Caskmates Stout release readily at hand. To quickly compare the Stout finish is a deeper darker more brooding whiskey while the IPA finish is a more “peaceful” whiskey with a more subtle delivery.

The aroma is warm, crisp and fruity; the palate is the same but a bit heavier and oakier; the finish, however, is more like the standard Jameson but incredibly short; almost non-existent it’s so short. But wrap it all up and I still enjoy the Jameson Caskmates IPA quite a bit and looking at it as a piece in a series makes it more interesting and I’m looking forward to what they do next!

SCORE: 83/100 (B)
