July went by fast! It was a busy month, mostly spent agonizing over my education statistics class. I took my final last Tuesday and now I’m a free woman!
Here’s what I read in July:
- The Awakening – Kate Chopin
- Stardust — Neil Gaiman
- A Sunless Sea — Anne Perry
- The Ghost in the Electric Blue Suit — Graham Joyce
- The Weed that Strings the Hangman’s Bag — Alan Bradley
- The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry — Gabrielle Zevin
- Written in My Own Heart’s Blood — Diana Gabaldon
I read a lot in July, but I’m embarrassed to say I posted only one book review: The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker. But in fairness, I spent most of the month working on my statistics class and a good chunk of the month feeling under the weather. When I’m sick I read a lot, but I don’t write much. Then we drove to Ohio for the weekend to visit friends who had (sadly) moved away. And we just got back.
What am I reading now? I was inspired by the Estella Society’s readalong of John Steinbeck’s East of Eden. With my stats class over (and no class until August 25), it’s time for something heavier. It was going to be Far From the Madding Crowd but now it’s East of Eden instead. I’m supposed to report on the first 13 chapters this week.
I also discovered the Overdrive eBook program at my public library (prompted by my review of Kindle’s new Unlimited program) and I’m very excited about the books they have to offer. I have BJ Novak’s short stories on hold and I downloaded Vampires in the Lemon Grove by Karen Russell.
Challenge update: only The Awakening qualified for any challenges this month.
Hope you had a good weekend and a good July! What are you reading?
