This week’s Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl, is to identify ten books with titles that describe us (topic submitted by Susan at blogginboutbooks.com). I love this idea and had fun putting this together. In the end, I tried to cover a variety of aspects of my life. I’ve ordered these titles chronologically, for the most part.
I only included books on this list that I’ve read and recommend. So they aren’t just here because of the title.

- Lucky Broken Girl by Ruth Behar: Like the girl in this story, I was in a very serious accident as a teenager, and while I was broken for a while, I was also lucky to have survived without serious long-term effects.
- Don’t Touch My Hair by Emma Dabiri (also titled Twisted): My hair’s always been thick and curly, so I could definitely relate to this title, because I have had strangers ask to touch my hair.
- Shy Creatures by Clare Chambers: This one’s pretty clear.
- Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain: This one’s also pretty clear.
- The Library Book by Susan Orlean: There were a number of bookish titles I could have chosen, like Book Lovers or The Book Eaters. But this title reminds me of the Saturdays my dad took me to the library as a girl, and how libraries are still my favorite places.
- Love Over Scotland by Alexander McCall Smith: Mr. CG and I didn’t meet in Scotland, but the first time we met we talked a lot about it. He’s from the Fraser clan, and at the time I was deeply into the Outlander books and dreaming of going to Scotland. Then I went, making my first trip to another country, and that experience gave us something we bonded over.
- Two is Enough: I never wanted to be a parent, and Mr. CG and I had that in common. We decided, after much discussion and some research, that our path forward lay in being childless by choice. I’ve never regretted that decision. This book, by the way, is one of the few resources we found when we were thinking about this. I hope there are more today!
- Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto: I have six nieces and one nephew, and I love being an aunt! This was also a really fun book.
- We’re Going to Need More Wine by Gabrielle Union: Mr. CG and I also bonded over a shared love of wine, sometime in our thirties. Since then, we’ve traveled the world tasting wine. Some days, we really do need more wine. I also included it because Union’s memoir is fantastic and it’s one of my favorite titles.
- Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb: I included this title because it’s something I find myself saying a lot. Therapy has been hugely helpful in my life, and I recommend it when I can. I’m glad there’s been such a shift on mental health issues, where we don’t have to be embarrassed about talking to someone.

Do any of these book titles describe you? If not, what’s a book title that does?
