Meghan Trainor, The Guess Who's Randy Bachman, Faber Drive's Dave Faber, Mother Mother's Ryan Guldemond, Gavin Brown, and Zubin Thakkar are just a few of the incredible artists that Shylo Sharity has collaborated with and for this bright new Canadian talent, it is only the beginning.
Shylo's aspirations have always been in the entertainment business, having appeared in several commercials, TV shows, and films. Shylo even scored a supporting role in the TV movie "The School of Life" starring Ryan Reynolds as well as the feature-length film "Door to Door" with William H. Macy and Kyra Sedgwick. Not to mention a singing role on the show "Dead Zone". Shylo's latest achievements are hosting the TV show City Lights on Novus TV, booking the lead in the musical theatre production Sisters of Mercy at the Boomtown Casino in New Orleans and also becoming the singing voice of Aria Blaze on My Little Pony.
When asked about her style, Shylo compares her sound as a mix of pop-icon Katy Perry meets Lana Del Rey, with an underlying influence of Taylor Swift at times when blending classic pop melodies with an intimate acoustic sound. Shylo's music can best be described as Indie/pop Country with an edge.
7 Questions with Shylo Sharity
#1: Being selected as a finalist for Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist is a big deal. One of the 7 of you will perform on the Main Stage at Boots and Hearts this summer. Describe the moment you found out you made it? How did they contact you? Where were you? and has it sunk in yet?
I was at home when I received an email informing me I was one of the finalists. It is hard to describe how I felt but let me try. Elated, amazed, joyous, and incredibly happy!
#2: Every artist I've spoken to has a story about how / when they decided to purse music as a career. Describe the moment that you knew that music was the path for you and what inspired you to take that path.
I realized that I loved music when I joined a church youth band. I was supported and encouraged to play guitar and write my own music. Later, I teamed up with a few bands and worked on developing the craft of songwriting in several different genres. As time progressed I realized that I love all aspects of the musical journey, from writing, co-writing, playing guitar, transposing, recording and last but not least, performing.
Music is really one of the only things that can transcend borders, connect all generations and cultures. I love how we can all come together and experience the wonder of music.
#3: What's your all-time favourite movie?
Italian Job
#4: Your ideal brain food?
I love salmon, or a good latte to get the thoughts flowing.
#5: If you could see any artist in concert, who would you see (living or dead)?
Elvis Presley
#6: Name a fictional character most like you?
The energizer bunny. 🙂
#7: Why should you be chosen as the 2016 Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase winner?
It would be such an honour to be chosen as the Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase winner because of the amazing opportunity it would offer towards the next steps in my career. I have spent a lot of time co-writing with other songwriters constantly developing and growing as an artist and working towards the release of an eventual EP. A win would allow me to have a bigger foot print, share what I love to do with a larger audience and absolutely loving every minute of it.
...and a huge thank you to the judges for selecting me as one of the finalists. I am totally honoured.
