Finell has recently stepped into the accessory game introducing an unconventional product meant, however, to become timeless. Launched only a few months ago, the company’s eye-catching origami handbags have become instantly recognizable.
Finell, a manufacturer and global distributor of neo-luxe housewares based in Austin, Texas, is already an established name in the decorative home accessories industry. Always looking for the next challenge, Finell owner Rebecca Finell, who previously founded multi-awarded Boon Inc., launched her first collection of luxury handbags and small leather goods in September of 2014 at the Premiere Classe show in Paris. Her ultimate goal was to create a line of handbags, the likes of which the fashion industry has never seen or been able to produce on a mass-manufacturing level – in fact, the factories working with them had to develop a brand new process to give the bags their signature look, and this technology is patented by Finell.
Inspired by her appreciation for Japanese design and love for origami, her product range balances perfectly functionality with cutting-edge design. As Rebecca puts it herself: “Our mantra is neo-luxe living, we create new utilities using an unexpected mix of luxury materials while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship and quality.”
The collection reflects clearly the aesthetic of the brand; minimal yet structured, sharp and geometric, the products are crafted with high-quality leather using a particular process in order to create rigid yet flexible angular panels. They feature matte black hardware details and have durable microfiber interiors which ensure that the panels remain rigid even after they are well worn in. Comfort and practicality are top priorities for Finell, with the handbags produced being lightweight and flexible cut to meet the needs of modern life.
The handbag range includes different shapes and sizes; from clutch to tote bags, there are five styles to choose from. Some of the bags can also change shape or compress – e.g. the tote can fold completely flat for easy packing. The bags are available in a range of neutral – black, nude, clay, bone – and bold – black gold and cobalt blue – colors for those seeking to make a statement.
The future is surely exciting for the newly-founded fashion accessories department at Finell. The gifted designer is currently looking to expand her fashion accessories collection, launching soon a new jewelry line set to debut in 2015.
