Today I have a fun read for you: an interview with Rebecca Emery from One Sugar Please. A talented graphic designer and blogger. I have asked her a few questions on what her thoughts are about Scandinavian design and where she finds inspiration for her work. Here are her answers:
1. Tell us a bit about you, what do you do?
I’m a professional tea drinker and graphic designer working from my independent print design studio, One Sugar Please. When not designing, I regularly blog from my website onesugarplease.co.uk, love spending time cooking for family and friends, and wandering around charity shops finding vintage or Scandinavian homeware to add to my growing collection. I also do a spot of writing and listing vintage events in the West Midlands for The Vintage Festival.

2. Do you have any favorite Scandinavian designers and brands?
I love the simple form, colours and bold symmetrical shapes from the mid-century design classics of Grete Prytz Kittelson in the Cathrineholm enamel cookware . I often find myself naturally using strong symmetry and repetition in my own design work, especially in my hand-cut paper card designs. The lovely art and design inspiration focused blog of Fine Little Day run by Gothenburg based Elisabeth Dunker is one of my favorite blogs, and I never fail to get a inspirational buzz from a trip to IKEA or from IKEA’s Swedish blog.

3. What is typical Scandinavian style to you?
Typical Scandinavian style to me reflects simplicity, functionality and design at it’s most beautiful through form, color and the use of natural materials. In interior design, I think it’s about creating spaces to completely relax in but that also allows for a unique individual style and personality.

4. How do you find inspiration?
My inspiration comes from many different places – in natural form, typography, textiles, vintage and my past. From an early age I traveled on motorways to visit family in South Wales, spending hours gazing out my window at the bold graphics and typefaces on lorries from all over Europe. I can see through my work now how the iconic designs and logos have influenced me, and how they still inspire me now. Online sites like Image Spark and Pinterest have been a great source of inspiration too for both my working, crafting and cooking.
