For Indie Sunday this week, meet Shannon of Pahlish!
When did your love for polish begin?
My love for polish has been around for a very long time. My mom and I had a pretty decent collection of Revlon Streetwear polishes that we got rid of before we knew about thinner! Then later on in life I discovered nail boards and that was the end of my reasonably sized polish collection. I started frankening my own polishes when I got tired of what I found in the stores and that was where Pahlish began!
What made you decide to start your own polish line?I had been making polishes for quite awhile and was sending them out as part of swap packages as extras. Over time some of them got out and people asked me to recreate them. I was a graduate student working an unpaid internship at the time and that gave me the push to take the risk and see if Pahlish could make it in the marketplace. Thankfully we caught on and are still going strong!
What's the inspiration behind the colors you create?I draw a lot of my inspiration from music and nature. One of my very favorite things to do is to sit and listen to music and just see where it takes me creatively. We also end up with a lot of pictures of nature and random rocks and leaves in our living room that I bring in for inspiration. I'm a very tactile person so I often want to recreate the textures of the items that inspire me instead of just trying to capture the color. That was the "big idea" driving our recent releases "Fleur de Sel" and "Mountains Beyond Mountains", I wanted to capture the textural element of salt and granite using layers of small flakes.
How many polishes do you have in your stash? That is an excellent question, but I couldn't say for sure. I would guess that it's only around 200 bottles. I try to keep my collection to just things that I absolutely love because it gets very overwhelming for me when it gets too big. My collection is largely other indies and "unofficial" brands made by my close friends, I'm really into the "artisan" category of polish!
How can customers follow you on social media? We have a facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Pahlish), a twitter (@pahlish), and an instagram that we just started recently (@pahlish). We do weekly giveaways on our facebook page and we post new polish previews there as well!
