In the Studio – Toad Lilies

By Pattyhankins @PattyHankins

Toad lilies are one of the most unusual flowers I’ve ever photographed. When I’ve found them at local botanical gardens – there is often a flower stalk with multiple blossoms trailing on the ground. At my local farmers’ market, Wollam Gardens has had toad lilies available that are much taller with just a few blossoms and buds per stalk. I had a wonderful time photographing the toad lilies I got at the farmers’ market under the studio lights. Since I could control the light, the exact position of the flowers and how many blossoms were in each photo, I was finally able to take some photos that really show the wild and crazy details of the toad lilies.
