In the Studio: Lavender Parrot Tulips

By Pattyhankins @PattyHankins

I love tulips – the colors, the shapes, the textures – and of course – when I photograph them outdoors – the weather is warmer. I’ve been buying flowers at my local floral wholesaler all winter – and have been avoiding buying tulips. Not sure why – but they just didn’t speak to me when I was in the big cooler choosing my floral subjects for the studio. Last week – I finally bought some tulips. They had many many varieties so I had a difficult choice. I decided to get a bunch of Lavender Parrot Tulips – and had a great time photographing them.

At first I photographed a single tulip

And then I started photographing them in groups – and trying different lighting setups to see how that changed my photo

With all the cold and snow we’ve been having here in Bethesda – it was wonderful getting a sense of spring when I photographed the tulips. I also really liked what I came up with for photos – my guess is I’ll be photographing more tulips in my studio soon
