Well I finally did it – got a bunch of calla lilies and took them into the studio. For some reason I have an aversion to photographing calla lilies – probably because I’ve seen so many bad photos of them. They are an incredibly lovely popular flower – that can be very hard to photograph well.
Bill and I spent over an hour working with these wonderful Crystal White Calla Lilies in our studio – trying first one position for the flower and then another. We tried several combinations of lights and modifiers – and with all that – I’m still not sure I’ve gotten any photos that I’m really happy with.
Clearly I’m going to need to get some more calla lilies and try again. Fortunately for me Potomac Floral Wholesale usually has lots of colors and sizes of callas in stock – so at least I know where to get more photo subjects
