In my continuing adventures photographing flowers in the studio – photographing cosmos was definitely a learning experience. The cosmos are such delicate flowers that it was challenging to get them to hold still so I could photograph them
I love seeing cosmos growing in local gardens – they always seem to be dancing in the wind. I just didn’t expect them to move so much in the studio. Every time I walked past the table, reset a light, or one of the cats walked past (yes they do help me in the studio) the flowers moved. Usually when I’m in the studio I have lots of time to perfect my composition and exposure – not so with the cosmos. It was much closer to my usual experiences photographing a garden.
I started out photographing individual flowers and quickly realized that as wonderful cosmos are individually – they are even more wonderful to photograph in groups.
