In Love with Solange

I know it’s not a competition but when your sister is Beyoncé comparisons will always be inevitable. And I have to confess I have always slightly preferred Solange to Beyoncé. Love them both, but Solange just has that quirky indie edge that I love. I am so happy she is working on a follow-up to her 2012 EP “True“. I read an interview in this month’s Harper’s Bazaar in which Solange says she has been “hiding” in the countryside in Louisiana, where she now lives, working on new material. Best news I’ve heard in ages! I’m not sure if remember Solange’s hit single “Losing You” from “True” but it’s still one of my all time favorite tracks and a song which is just pure sunshine for 4 minutes and 41 seconds.

In addition to Harper’s Bazaar, Solange is one of three cover girls for Essence Magazine this month talking about her reputation as a style icon. “A lot of times I don’t feel very deserving of that title, because it is such a rotation of inspiration that I get from…so many people.” She goes on saying, “I interpret my style the best way I can, and I feel so appreciative that it’s celebrated on that level.”  Her vibe reminds me of my other big favorite Janelle Monae. Solange’s style credits also include a post as an Art Director and Creative Consultant for Puma.

So whilst we wait for new material from Miss Solange,  here are my two favorite Solange tracks, the fore mentioned “Losing You” and the 80s R&B pop sounding “Lovers In The Parking Lot.” If these tracks don’t get your weekend started on the right foot, then nothing will. Happy Friday everyone!
