Imogen Heap and the Mi.Mu Gloves

By Vecie78 @NeverSayCool

In a world in which most electronic musicians pass countless hours in front of the computer screen, making music with the mouse, we really feel there is the need of new forms of expression, that can replicate, somehow, the sensation of a played instrument.

Sure, the market is plenty of Midi controllers, each one with its own good and bad points, but we think that each of them lacks of real originality in terms of expression in a live environment.

Well, this is what artist Imogen Heap has tried to sort out with her Midi gloves…Some kind of midi controller that doesn’t offer knobs and faders and buttons, but that allows a very nice correspondence and communication between body gestures and music.

“These beautiful gloves help me gesturally interact with my computer,” says Heap.

Pushing buttons and twiddling dials “is not very exciting for me or the audience,” she adds. “Now I can make music on the move, in the flow and more humanly, and more naturally engage with my computer software and technology.”

The gloves are now being funded on Kickstarter and may be available to public soon.
