If You’re Lucky : 2014 Retrospective

Posted on the 08 January 2015 by Ikzidna @InspiredGround

One week of 2015 has started and people are going on with awards seasons (obviously). And, as for my blogging days, I’ve probably have my 3-4 times through this-early-Oscar-anticipation days. The excitement should be happening anytime soon, since last week (New Year’s) I was distracted with what could’ve been one of my worst allergy-situation. It was like, “Oh yeah, the year’s changing. I can’t really go anywhere.” Not feeling my best.

It had occur to me that 2014 was probably one of my hardest days on basically doing anything. It was certainly the year of transitions, which wasn’t easy. My usual comfortable ‘blogging space’ isn’t exactly comfortable in the new place, so I got hesitant to just sit in it. Then my computer broke down, which have all important (and not-so important) files, then it got back and then broke again (basically it just waits to be reformatted and I’m not ready to lose data). I had a lot of sorting out to do, it was exhausting and sadly I was this close to think of closing the blog (yes, I’m sorry to break it to you) and no I end up not doing it.

I am thankful that I got so preoccupied that I just left that thought in one corner of my head. After I sorted one thing before the year ends, it hit me that leaving this blog is such a waste. I mean, why would I? I still love movies, I still have some close blogger friends that bother to visit the site and comment (and I should visit others more), the fact that some people e-mail me to put links and ads are signs that the site has marketability and I got paid (oh yes, it happened in 2014), I got invited for a festival press screening as well (can’t go because of technicality) but I attended the opening night. I watched an indie movie and reviewed it before it got released and got so many hits overnight (not I did not expected that).

The dynamic is so beautiful. And it all happened last year, aside from all the exhaustion. I couldn’t complain.

It hit me that blogging is a way of speaking, a media for your own voice. And if you’re lucky, you’re getting paid from it. If you’re lucky, it got you to places and people you actually talk about in your blog (still on it, hopefully). If you’re lucky, you’ll meet other bloggers in other parts of the world (oh please let this happen). And so on, and so on. I feel lucky.

I just realized why it was so hard to blog in 2014. It simply because (aside from lots of changing) it got matured. Now it’s my 5th year (wow!), and it will have its own challenges. But who cares?  Let’s get through it, and go places

:)
