“I’m Coaching Soccer All Day Today,” by Susie Petruccelli

When Francine asked me to contribute to her “Month of Mothers” project, I was excited.

And then immediately said no. That I was too busy with my family. Just like all the times she’s asked me to meet her out for a girl’s night out.

She told me that I would have to submit a piece by Tuesday.

Impossible! I can’t! It’s too much! It’s too hard! But I want to.

She said, “Do it today–it will take 20 minutes.”

I replied, “I’m coaching soccer all day today.”

I am coaching soccer twice today, but I’m also preparing for my three children to be out of the house all day at various activities.  I never get it quite right.  Someone is always missing something.  Today for example, I forgot to put Chapstick or Eucerin on my 4 year old’s very chapped lips before I sent him with his grandfather, my daughter got sunburned, and my middle child didn’t get dinner (microwaved pizza) until after 8pm. How can I take time for myself to sit down and write for a few minutes when I can’t even keep my family organized?

But I trusted my friend, Francine.  It only took a few minutes.  And I got to practice my most favorite activity, writing, after coaching soccer.

Great piece, Susie! Really speaks volumes about what we go through to get to do what makes up happy. So glad you contributed. See, I told you it would be easy!
