As dozens of purple suits descend on the streets of Lloret De Mar, sporting full heads of bright green hair dye and faces thick with white paint, I think to myself: Oh, here we go again.
I’m not going to lie. I love the concept of I Love Tour. I love the way that they bring thousands and thousands of university students (or cling-to-my-youth-grads like me) for a bit of healthy competition. Well actually there’s nothing healthy about it at all – which uni can drink the most, which uni can embarrass themselves the most, which uni can chant the loudest (W-w-w-w-w-worcester!) and which uni can make the biggest prat of themselves with the most outrageous fancy dress costumes.
Worcester Uni may not be the biggest. We may not have the best pass rates. But we certainly are the loudest in a chant-off, and we don’t do things by halves when it comes to fancy dress. The purple-suited Jokers and our one flip-flip wearing batman were deserving winners…..
So What is Tour?
“After four years of university, I have three words of advice: Go. On. Tour.”
Those were my words, printed proudly in the university paper. I Love Tour is responsible for organising famous university festivals such as Saloufest, Damfest, Festive Italia and Lloret De Mar sports tours. The Daily Mail and the Mirror have published several articles on the shameful drunken activities on tour, but believe it or not, there are plenty of sports tournaments happening in the day.
I’m not going to condone the way we dress, act, chant and vomit. But I’m not going to pretend that I don’t love it. Is there a chav inside each and every single one of us? Maybe tour is the place to let it out.
Lloret De Mar Beaches
