I never really listened to Eric Clapton very much. However, I grew up during the release of his 90′s singles which in my opinion, doesn’t come close to his 70′s and 80′s work. I’ve been slowly discovering his older stuff now and today’s entry features one of his well-known hits.
I Can’t Stand It was released as a single on February 11, 1981 from his album, Another Ticket. What a great release time…just before Valentine’s Day, so all those people who got screwed over by their boyfriends/girlfriends/husbands/wives had something to listen to. I can totally see them blasting it in their cars…can you?
The song went to #10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and to #1 on Billboard’s newly introduced “Top Tracks” chart for rock songs. It also went to #15 in Canada.
The lyrics describe a man who is fed up with his girlfriend who is constantly cheating on him. I wonder who inspired him to write this!
