I Am the Cheese

I absolutely love my Trends and Issues in Literature in Children and  Young Adults class. I was warned there would be a lot of reading, but I like reading and it is fun reading. The reading list has books on it I have never read, and books that take me out of my comfort zone at times. Since I haven’t heard of quite a few of the books, I have just chosen them randomly.

(With some spoilers.)

I fell in love with this novel within the first couple pages. It began as if Adam Farmer (the protagonist) was living in the present, but being visited by old memories in his past. He was on 70 mile bike ride to visit his father. Along the way memories that revealed who he really is are exposed to him.

In the flashbacks he is questioned, and you discover quickly he is being held in some type of mental hospital. You find out later he is there because of something to do with his journalist dad uncovering some type of government conspiracy.

As more of his past is revealed, I began to get more suspicious of the questioner. Adam was conflicted with who he really was, who the people questioning him were, and what was okay to share with them.

At the end of the novel, the author reveals who Adam really is and what he is doing there. I loved this book, but I was left wanting more…. I wanted to know what was going to happen next, and sure I could have left that to my imagination, but I have a tendency to ask a million questions after I finish reading a book.
