It really annoying when you spray your perfume on in the morning only to find it’s disappeared by the time you’ve commuted and got to your desk at work. Fragrances helps make people feel more refreshed, sexy and confident, so what better than to learn about how to make them last longer?

How to choose a long-lasting perfume:

Sometimes it’s just easier to know which perfumes will actually last longer once sprayed rather than worrying about where you should be spraying them and how often. With this in mind, when you are out shopping for perfumes, take note of the fact that lighter, citrus based perfumes will tend to dissipate a lot faster than stronger, muskier and woody centered perfumes.

Before buying, check what the concentration of the perfume is:

- Perfume: This concentration will contain the most oil which means the scent of the perfume will take longer to evaporate, so therefore will last longest. This concentration is always the most expensive.

- Eau de Perfume: This concentration contains less oil than Perfume but more so than Eau de toilette. It will therefore not last as long as the stronger concentration but suitably longer than the weaker concentrations of Eau de Toilette and Eau de Cologne.

- Eau de Toilette: Since this is one of the weaker concentrations, it is also one of the cheapest and therefore a type that is most suited to everyday use.

- Eau de Cologne: This has the weakest concentration of oils, which means its scent lasts the shortest amount of time but is of reasonable quality for everyday use.

It’s all in the application :

After making sure you purchases scents that are naturally longer lasting, the next step is to make sure you apply the perfume in all the right places. Keep in mind perfume will always last longer when it has been applied to a recently washed body; this is because our bodies absorb and retain scents a lot better when we are a bit warmer and cleaner.

It’s also crucial to apply fragrance on pulse points to ensure a longer lasting scent. These include the wrists, hollow and back of the neck, between your breasts and behind your ears. A common mistake made by people is rubbing the wrists together after spraying them. This is a mistake because it breaks the oils down faster, resulting in a smell that doesn’t last as long.

Perfumes
Your hair is a very good carrier of scent, so another way to keep your scent throughout the day is to spray your hairbrush with your perfume and then brush your hair. This will infuse your hair and ensure your scent sticks around during the day.

The reapplication process:

A very good trick is to use the perfume’s scented versions of shower gel and body lotion, since these are readily absorbed by the body and just add an extra layer of scent on your body, in addition to your actual perfume spray. Generally though, you shouldn’t need to reapply your perfume too often; in fact once every 6-8 hours should be more than enough.

Reapplication will also vary depending on the strength of your perfume, which you will hopefully have identified with the help of the first tip in this article. Otherwise, it’s never too bad an idea to take along a sample of your scent with you, if going out on the town or even into work. This way when you feel the scent is disappearing, you can give you can give yourself little spritz.
