How to Boost Social Media Engagement Using 3 Psychology Principles

Posted on the 01 February 2016 by Swoopadmin @SwoopStudios

Are your social media posts getting the engagement you desire?

Do you want to connect with your audience in a better way?

Engagement on social media is determined to a large extent by how well your social posts trigger action from your target audience.

In this post you’ll discover how to boost Social Media Engagement using 3 Psychology Principles

1: Focus on a Want: you will get more engagement from your posts if you can make your target audience believe that they can easily implement a solution or change to a problem they are experiencing. By being creative, you can show your audience how easily they can overcome the problems for which you provide solutions! This puts your brand as the mediator between them and their problems and sets you apart as their easiest solution provider thus earning you more engagement as well as conversions! When posting, seize every opportunity to walk readers through the hard stuff and break it down in easy-to-digest chunks of information so they can take action quickly and easily.

2: Appeal to the Knowledge Seekers!: people love and will always love explanations! The word “why” is one of the trigger words you can use in your social media posts to stimulate readers to want to search for the answer to a question. In your social media posts, explain to your target audience why they need something and how they’ll get it by reading your content or using your product.

3. Take advantage of the fear of missing out: as humans, we do not like being left out and we are most often apprehensive about missing out of important events and happenings. We always want to be in the know and be where the action is happening. We want to be included. If we say no to an opportunity, we fear we’ll miss out on something that could be of great benefit to us. For example, if there’s an important conference in your industry, you may be compelled to attend because you fear you’ll miss out on great opportunities that other people in your industry will be afforded.  You should start implementing this into your social strategy, because involving your audience in what you’re doing will make it more personal to them as well. It will create a sense of ownership with your brand. Show them what they’ll miss by not subscribing to your list or trying a certain product and you’ll be amazed to see the turn around in engagements and conversions.

Finally, take a moment to review how successful brands get so much attention and engagement with their social posts. You’ll discover how they use the principles we’ve shared above! A great way to connect with your audience is to incorporate these psychological principles when creating your content. Try this and share your results with us!
