How to Attract Hummingbirds to Your Yard:
1. Set up a feeder:
You can purchase hummingbird feeders just about anywhere and for just a few dollars. I have even seen small ones at our local dollar store. You don’t need to spend money on hummingbird food to go in it, just give this simple and inexpensive recipe a try.
Easy Hummingbird Food Recipe
Ingredients:
1 Part Sugar
4 Parts Water
Directions:
All you need to do is combine your ingredients in a pan and boil for 1-2 minutes until dissolved. Cool the mixture down to room temp and you can then store it in your refrigerator for up to a week.
Please note: Don’t use honey or artificial sweeteners in your mixture as it  can be harmful to the birds. Also, you do not need to add artificial coloring.
2. Give them a hanging basket to dine on.
A flower basket hanging from your patio makes the perfect dining spot for hummingbirds, plus gives your porch a colorful pop. Some excellent hanging basket choices would include flowers such as Columbine, Fuchsias, Hollyhocks, Petunia, Flowering Tobacco, Geranium, Begonia, and Impatiens.
3. Plant Hummingbird friendly shrubs and trees.
Hummingbirds love the color red and will flock to it. Give varieties such as Azaleas,
Butterfly Bush, Honeysuckle, and Trumpet Flower (as shown) a try and see what kind of hummingbird magic you can drum up.
4. Offer several spots to dine.
Hummingbirds are very territorial, so if you want to attract more than one, try putting up 3-4 feeders out of sight from each other. This will ensure you get a large variety of birds in various viewing areas of your home.
5. Tie a red ribbon.
If you still are not seeing any birds in your yard, you can try tying red ribbons onto branches and feeders. Many people swear by this tip and say it is a great way to get the birds to come to your yard and explore.
