You probably be sipping your cup of coffee right now while reading this post. Why not? After all there is no such “appropriate time” for a coffee affair. But really, how much of a coffee is too much? Coffee to many, well I’ll start with myself first is a maintenance fluid every time you need an energy boost, it could be an understatement but it works just like a maintenance drug for a chronic illness that only coffee drinkers can relate to. What is it in coffee that hypnotizes drinkers from all walks of life? Why are coffee shops mushrooming and booming in the business industry today more than it does in the past decades? Had the earlier generations trivialized coffee and missed a lot of adrenaline kick that the younger generations should make up for their loss?
As a coffee drinker myself, it does occur to me if I’m still drinking coffee the healthy way or have I already gone way too much of a caffeine that I am supposed or allowed to have as far as health issue is concerned. Consuming four mugs of coffee seems pretty normal to me on a daily basis and I believe some are going beyond that and that makes me an average coffee drinker at least. So really, how much of a coffee is too much? If I drink a black coffee, does it make it healthier? Would it be better if I add a spoonful or two of a creamer? Or maybe espresso and latte are better options, you think so? Shall I pick instant or brewed?

When I was younger, I remembered old folks exchanging their expertise as to how coffee can ruin one’s health. Since coffee drinkers tend to sustain the need to drink coffee all through their lives and in most cases if they ceased, it does cause headaches and mood disturbances, many people linked it to addiction and further attach it to some unhealthy unknown addicting substance that might be present in the coffee itself. The debate of the risks and benefits of coffee still run up to these days among laymen and experts.Just to give us an idea, a 100 ml medium strength coffee would contain the micronutrients nutritional profile as shown below according to the Coffee and Health.
Looking at the picture above, we would know that coffee contains nutritional value. With its claimed benefits as published in many health book and numerous blogs and websites, many people are still skeptic and doubt coffee to be a villain. Just like you, I too frequently ask myself if how much of a coffee is too much. Given the benefits and a little risks of too much coffee drinking, one should really assess himself on this. While there may be no serious health cases reported linking coffee as the primary cause, for health issues that you fear would be of great concern, it would always be advisable to consult experts like your doctors, nutritionists and dietitians who are experts on this field. We all know coffee as the stimulant that it is. It can transform sleepy head into his most active version. Blame it on the caffeine. Should I say thank caffeine instead? Would that mean that four, six, eight cups of coffee a day is okay? Wouldn’t it stand on our way to blissful healthy living? Does the number of cups or mugs of coffee really matter?
Besides its stimulant effect, did you know that coffee is also an antioxidant? Yes it is. Just like Vitamins E, C and glutathione, it also helps to make the skin supple. It may be not be as powerful as the three mentioned but it is that’s why some spas and beauty clinics use it to pamper your skin.
Not withstanding the benefits and risks of coffee, there is another picture behind every coffee drinker. Each one has his story to tell. We have our tale of our coffee affair and just like any love story, we like to reminisce good and happy memories.
