How I’m Satisfying My Travel Bug

Posted on the 02 June 2020 by Tahlia Goulding @NoPlaneOldHols

Here in Australia, we’ve been in quarantine for a while now. Sure, the first couple of weeks were okay but we been going slowly crazier each day!

How I’m satisfying my travel bug
And as holidays that were once booked have come and gone it’s getting harder and harder to keep our travel bug sustained.
I love to travel, I’ve been traveling since I was young with my family and as I have grown I’ve continued to travel on my own. I’m one of the few people lucky enough to love both group and solo trips and as I sit here in quarantine I am missing my sense of adventure more than anything. But rather than let the world get me down, I’ve decided to bring the adventure to me!

David Attenborough Binge

With so much time at home, there has never been a better time to binge-watch a show or seven. You could open Netflix and watch Tiger King (still do that if you want, it is an interesting show!) but I was after something a little more dreamy.
Cue David Attenborough, the world’s favorite historian is here to transport us around the globe. While you could choose to visit any number of amazing regions around the world, I felt it was time to return to one of my favorite places on Earth, the Great Barrier Reef.
Released in 2015, Great Barrier Reef is a three-episode Attenborough collection exploring the magnificent reefs lining Australia’s east coast. The Great Barrier Reef holds a special place in my heart, the marine life here is so special and spectacular, if I could live there I would! Plus if you’re looking for an even more interactive experience head to the accompanying website to follow with David as he traverses the reef.
Another great Attenborough watch is episode 3 of Seven Worlds, One Planet. Each episode explores a different continent, with Australia featuring in episode 3. If you’ve ever wondered if you can explore every terrain in Australia in one day, you can with David! You’ll be transported from the Australian rainforest to dense eucalyptus bush, all while learning about the magnificent animals we’re lucky enough to share this country with.

Get Ready for your next trip

If quarantine has been good for anything it’s reigniting my want for good adventures, not just any adventures. Cleaning my gear, repairing my bags and ensuring I am ready to go. One of the best parts of traveling is the anticipation, so I’ve taken this time to build some up through doing all the things I put off at the end of a trip.
This time has also been beneficial in upskilling and reviving my repair kits. A few hours of practice and I’ve nailed how to effectively sew up any holes that may occur in my pants. I’ve finally purchased a backup pair of shoelaces after I used my backup pair YEARS ago. And after a LOT of research, I think I’ve perfected deodorising my backpack without ruining it by dumping it in a washing machine.
I’m not one to shy away from the truth and quarantine has been hard, but imagining all the great things that will come and positively reflecting on the good times I’ve had are helping make everything feel better.
Keep planning those adventures, you’ll be out on them before you know it!
