Stressed? Overwhelmed? Yoga can help!
Yoga has been practiced for centuries and is something I use to combat my anxiety. What many do not know is that a yoga practice is very personal. Everyone has different issues and limitations that yoga can solve and/or work with. Therefore, it is difficult to tell someone else how to do yoga. It’s really about trying out different styles and poses and then seeing what works for you.
For me, I started with various beginner yoga DVD series. Once I had the basic poses down, I branched out by going to different yoga studios and buying different books. I was able to put together my own sequences based my research and knowing which poses worked best for my body. For instance, I have a bad knee so I tend to practice poses that focus on leg strengthening as strengthening the muscles around your knee helps it feel better. I also really enjoy the end of a yoga session because this is often when I meditate.
Below, I have some links that I have found to be helpful. I also have a link in my sidebar to the book Slim Calm Sexy Yoga by Tara Stiles that I use quite often.
- Yoga Downloads – I love this site! It has a lot of really great information for all levels.
- Yoga Journal – I regularly read this site for information about poses and to get new ideas.
- Living the Healthy Way – This blog has a lot of really great information on yoga.
Neither this list nor the information in this article is all encompassing as the information about yoga is endless. I would encourage you to search the web if you are interested in this topic. I do plan to post more information about yoga in the future so stay tuned!
