As we approach that really humid time in Hong Kong, one that many women dread, so some stylists become inundated with requests for a chemical straightener. The main problem with these straighteners whether Brazilian Blowout or Japanese Straightening is the strong chemical smell, the vapors and the process that these treatments actually do to the hair.

Victoria Sheridan stylist at Studio 8, has been telling me for a long time how much she believes in and only uses Australian bhave. Victoria commented about the Hong Kong humidity, “When your hair is healthy, styling is easier, your color lasts longer, it feels better, it’s stronger, more manageable and therefore less prone to damage, frizz and flyaway hair.”
So this is key, bhave rescue is NOT another keratin treatment, there is absolutely NO straightening involved. The revolutionary therapy has been specifically designed to help restore, repair and protect hair that has been severely damaged. So how do you get your hair to bhave? The first step is to call Victoria at Studio 8 and discuss your need for your hair being frizzy in the Hong Kong humidity, she has all the answers, answers that will no damage your health or hair.

bhave has a unique ingredient which is gently extracted a fully bioactive keratin protein that is naturally derived and gently extracted from the wool of New Zealand sheep, keeping critical amino acids and proteins intact. This in-salon therapy penetrates the hair shaft to repair and restore each and every strand of hair from the inside out, rather than superficially coating the hair surface for a temporary fix.

The treatment process is really similar to having your hair colored. The models hair was washed with a clarifying shampoo that makes the hair squeaky clean, two washes. The hair is combed wet with a specially designed brush, then dried thoroughly. The hair is sectioned the product applied, Victoria shows me that with each section she applies the product in three steps, the first application near to the scalp , then in the middle with a little amount on the ends. It has a thick, creamy consistency that spreads into the hair easily and doesn’t drip or run. After the application Victoria used her hands to spread the product through the section. Each section is combed, important to remember the product isn’t full of silicones, which is what many treatments are full of, bhave just contains the ingredients it needs to rebuild the hair structure.

When the models hair was coated, Victoria left the hair for 50 – 60 minutes, during this time there isn’t much of a scent, if any I thought it had a sweet banana scent. The scalp did not itch and NO foul vapors or smells, just perfect for all the clients. Once the time was up Victoria washed/rinsed with only two tint size bowls, as I watched her do this she explained how the product is not totally washed away as it is a treatment. When you feel the hair after it has been rinsed it is not sticky just smooth.
Immediately after the rinse, I could see the models hair looked like a different color, it wasn’t looking as dull and faded, as it had before the treatment. You would have thought a color has been applied, once the hair was blow-dried it was even more evident that the treatment had revitalized the hair, drawing out the color highlights giving it a much more even appearance.

The hair was then blow-dried to remove any moisture, then Victoria used a flat iron on sections 8 movements of the iron near the roots, 4 -5 in the middle and 1 near the ends. The heat was about 170 Celsius on the flat iron, this seals and smooths the hair straight. no styling products were used, however the finished look was glossy and healthy. If you plan on a color wait seven days.

As you can tell this is a treatment that has to be done by a professional who takes great care to achieve the desired results. Victoria said that she is not an advocate of chemical straighteners, basically due to the harmful fumes that come from the treatments, plus both the Brazilian and Japanese damage the hair cuticle rather than repair it, which is the key focus of behave.
