Japanese Auto giant Honda SIEL reveals their new diesel technology which can be labelled as turning point in auto industry for majour markets like Europe and India. "Hot coffee" served at Tokyo Auto Show was Honda's 1.6 L i-DTEC turbo diesel engine. The machine which produces maximum power of 120 Bhp @ 4,000 rpm and peak torque of 300 Nm @2,000 rpm.
This engine is light weighing just 170 kg and hence it is expected to deliver more fuel efficiency. Also Honda showcased a newly developed engine for automobiles called 'Earth Dreams Technology', which the company claims it will enhance fuel efficiency. However nothing has been revealed much by Honda and reserved it for some later date. The 1.6 L diesel engine is specifically targeted for its best selling Civic sedan. To keep up
with the demand for diesel cars in India, Honda in India might consider the same engine for its flagship sedan Honda City.
Price rise of fuel was a major drawback for petrol engine from Honda else it was India's hot pick. However, Honda has done some clever strategizing in India and boosted the sales of the sedan with some price cut-down. The auto major has been particularly competitive with the City and Jazz models by offering heavy discounts of up to Rs 1 lakh ($2000). Honda succeeded in these efforts too. Lets hope diesel variants from Honda will further draws more customer and have a wonderful future for Honda motors.
