For years I thought it was just me. Then one poor day when I ran out of deodorant, and I wasn't desperate enough to use my son's Axe deodorant, I searched for something I could make at home.
I found the easiest recipe for deodorant, EVER... It only has three ingredients.
Homemade Deodorant Recipe
You will need:
No, really. That's it!
How to make Homemade Deodorant
First, decide how much you want to make. You will need 1 part of each. If I am using 1 TBSP of coconut oil, then I add 1 TBSP of Arrowroot starch and 1 TBSP of baking soda. Need a bigger batch? Just add more. The largest I made was 1/3 cup of each. It was a huge batch!
Now, warm up the coconut oil. This doesn't take much. I put it in a metal bowl, then I sit the metal bowl in warm water. You're just trying to make the coconut oil soften or liquify. It doesn't take much.
Add the baking powder and arrowroot starch. Mix together well. If you want to get cute, you can scoop out a 1/4 tsp to 1/2 tsp size into small candy molds
and let them sit in the fridge to set into a individual sized blocks of deodorant. One piece per armpit!
How to use your new deodorant
I know some people have posted that they shape their deodorant into deodorant bottles that you buy online and then use them like regular, store-bought deodorant. I tried and failed miserably. I ended up with a huge mess.
Instead, I take one of my individual pieces of deodorant and put it on my armpit, then put my arm down so that it warms it up. By doing this, it softens the coconut oil and makes it easier to rub around. Now just rub it around your pits. DONE!
How well does this work?
I was actually very surprised at how well this works. I don't stink and it has a mild scent. If you want to add essential oils to yours, you can. I don't because I don't really care for scented stuff. This one is my favorite recipe and works great!
What do you think? Do you have a recipe you use for deodorant? Did you try this one? Let me know!
