Holiday Inspired Hair…Banana Updo

OVERVIEW:

The holidays are times for celebration and parties. You definitely want to look your best for a holiday party. What better way to stand out than with a fancy updo! A very classic and timeless style is the banana updo. It is also known as the French Twist. The timeless, Audrey Hepburn, was seen many times wearing this style. It gives women a graceful appearance and adds length to the neck.

In this post, I am going to give you a step by step guide to achieving the banana updo. I will be using products from the Schwarzkopf ULTIME line to help me achieve this style. These products are amazing and really help to achieve any holiday updo. Without further ado, let's get to the banana updo.

STEPS TO ACHIEVING THE BANANA UPDO:

Step 1: If you don't have a full head of thick hair- apply volumizing powder and slightly tease your hair, giving added height and texture.

I used the Schwarzkopf Biotin+ Volume & Texture Magic Volume Powder to give my hair loads of volume. This product is amazing for adding volume and texture to your hair. It really helped me achieve my poof! It smells divine and I just love it!

Step 2: Dependent on your style and preference, part or don't part your hair before gathering it loosely in the back of your head.

Step 3: For the classic banana updo you should gather your hair to a ponytail in the neck. Use hair wax or a light pomade to avoid fly-away hair.

I used the Schwarzkopf Crystal Shine & Hold Transparent Polishing Pomade to keep my fly-aways at bay. This product is amazing at keeping those fly-aways from popping up.

Step 4: Tightly twist the ponytail before pulling your hair up toward the top of your head. Keep on turning the ponytail around until it takes the shape of the typical banana. While you twist and pull the ponytail upward, use hidden bobby pins to secure the banana updo as it forms in the back of your head.

I found it more easy to separate your hair in two sections. Twist one section and leave the other section for wrapping around the twist (this leaves that swish effect).

Step 5: You can twist the end of the ponytail into a decorative spiral shape or hide the ends inside the banana. Secure the ends of your hair using bobby pins.

Step 6: Secure the finished banana updo with hairspray. Dependent on the occasion, add accessories like flowers, feathers or decorative barrettes for more glamour.

I used the Schwarzkopf Biotin Volume & Texture H2O-Free Hairspray to finish off the look and to keep my style lasting all day. This hairspray really holds the hair in place all day. It also smells amazing.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

This looks was so fun to do. I love how it turned out. It is not perfect and I will have to keep trying to achieve the perfect banana updo. However, I think the style I achieved is perfect for a holiday party. Put on some black eyeliner and red lips...and you are out the door. You will look totally classy and a little bit sassy. Now let's see your own version of the banana updo. I would love to see your recreations! Let me know how it goes in the comments below.
