THE SHOWS
Parenthood I'm never gonna make it, I think the tears started the second Drew got in the car and the car didn't start. The car his Grandpa Zeke gave him. It's now 11:28pm and the tears have sort of dried up, but I know if I let myself, I could cry again right now. Zeke's in the hospital. He's not doing well at all. He has 2 options. Surgery or no Surgery. Both options suck. I need Zeke to live. When the final credits roll, 3 weeks from now, I need Zeke to be alive to hold his great-grandchild. This family makes my heart hurt. Sometimes in joy and sometimes in sorrow. Only this family would bring Amber's baby shower to the hospital and be able to smile when their hearts are coming out of their skin. Only Adam can hold it all together AND deal with the insurance company after some d*ck ripped off The Luncheonette. Only Joel knows how everyone in the family takes their coffee and I'm going to miss all of them. I'm going to miss the way Zeke calls Drew "grandson." Crying again. He can't die Jason Katims! Let him live please.
Hindsight There have been plenty of movies where the lead character switches places or goes back in time to do things differently. 13 Going on 30, Peggy Sue Got Married, Back to the Future & 17 Again all come to mind. Then there's the movie Sliding Doors with Gwyneth Paltrow. Where it's all about making different decisions. Hindsight is a combination of the two really. It's Becca's 2nd wedding day and she's questioning her decision to get remarried. She misses her BFF, who she hasn't spoken to in 10 years. She takes a walk to clear her head and a hot guy puts a spell of sorts on her sending her back to 1994 and her 1st wedding day. You know how I love the 80's and The Goldbergs, well the 90's weren't bad either. VHS tapes, Discman, 90210, AOL, "Linger" by The Cranberries, "Groove is in the Heart" by Deeeelight and of course a very angry Alannis Morrisset. Well, now that I'm typing this stuff, the best was definitely yet to come, wasn't it? Hilarious when Becca swears to her BFF, Lolly, that Patrick Dempsey really does get cute. Becca basically gets a 2nd chance at adulthood. She decides not to marry her super hot fiancé, Sean, played by Craig Horner, and that's where the show begins. I LOVED IT. Laura Ramsey, the actress who plays Becca, is adorable. This is SO her break out role. The guy that plays Jamie, her brother, John Amedori, is super cute too. All the guys look awesome with their shirts off, and I'm telling you this show is a winner. C'mon, don't you wish you could go back KNOWING WHAT YOU KNOW NOW and do it all over again? Think about it…or watch this show.
THE OTHER STUFF
-The Consumer Electronics Association and NATPE conducted an interesting study on Content delivery. Here are some of the results
- The millennial demographic group (13- 34) is comfortable using many different sources of TV program content and consequently are significantly more likely to consume full-length TV programs from a streaming source (84 percent streamed in the past six months) than live TV programming at its original air time (54 percent), or recorded content from a DVR (33 percent).
- Millennials value their Netflix subscriptions more than broadcast or cable. Millennials value their ability to stream content above cable or broadcast channels. The ability to choose what they want to watch when they want to watch it is of high value to all three generational groupings, but particularly among millennials. In the study, 51 percent consider a subscription to Netflix “very valuable,” compared to 42 percent for broadcast channels, and 36 percent for cable subscriptions.
- Gen Xers love video on demand and DVRs. Gen Xers tend to be the heaviest users of their cable/satellite/telco time shifting offerings including video on demand (VOD) and DVR. Among those in this age group who have access to VOD, 76 percent use their VOD service once a week or more often, similar to SVOD usage. The study found DVRs are primarily used to avoid commercials, while VOD is for convenience.
- The study found increased multi-screen viewing of TV programming is a central factor in reaching younger target audiences. While the TV set is still the most commonly used device for watching TV programs, among the millennial group there are some distinct differences in their use and preference for multiple screens.
- Portability is the trend. About half of millennials say they watch TV programming on a laptop, and for 19 percent, it’s their preferred TV viewing screen. Another 28 percent watch television on a tablet and 22 percent on a smartphone. Portability and the ability to watch anywhere is a key benefit in their use of multiple screens due to a greater comfort level with smaller screen sizes compared to older generations.
- Millennials shifting to devices rather than TVs. While nine in 10 viewers say they watch TV programming on a television set, millennials are significantly less likely to do so (85 percent). In terms of preference, only 55 percent of millennials select a television set as the preferred screen for viewing television content.
-Bob's Burgers was renewed for a 6th Season, Inside Comedy was renewed for a 2nd Season and HBO renewed Bill Maher's show for Seasons 14 & 15. Sure that's some great news, but ya know what's even better? HBO also released the premiere date for Season 5 of Game of Thrones!!! Pretty sure I'm actually away for Spring Break on April 12th but I'll figure out how to watch it from the beach in Antigua!
-Ted Danson and Jean Smart will be in the 2nd Season Fargo which I totally don't care about, but one of my faves, Strike Back, finally got a premiere date. Well, maybe not an official date, but we did get a premiere Season. The 4th and final season will be back this Summer yeahhhhhh
