In an industry, where importance is given to the male lead, actress Vidya Balan has superseded all. This is the third consecutive year for Bollywood actress Vidya Balan bagging the prestigious National Award, who is well known for portraying woman-centric roles.
The 59th National Award for the best actress was won by Vidya Balan for her outstanding performance in Milan Luthria’s ‘The Dirty Picture’.
Vidya portrayed the role of South sex symbol Silk Smitha in the Bollywood biopic ‘The Dirty Picture’. The film ‘The Dirty Picture’ produced by Ekta Kapoor not only rocked the box office and set the cash registers ringing, it also won the maximum popular awards.
The actress has bagged the prestigious award earlier for R Balki’s ‘Paa’ (2009) alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Vishal Bharadwaj’s ‘Ishqiya’ (2010) opposite Nasseruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi and now Milan Luthria’s ‘The Dirty Picture’ (2011). A hat-trick indeed!
The 33 year old Vidya Balan expressed her happiness by saying: “I want to believe it….. long cherished dream has come true….. my first….. I don’t know what to say…… I want to thank director Milan Luthria for giving me this film, This is really unbelievable…… It is the biggest honor of the country……. every award is special”.
