So, with Lemon out line-dancing with Wade and pretending to be Joelle in order to save Wade's girl of the month from her pissed off ex, the main plot revolved around Zoe finding out about the picture and the relationship between her best friend and her sworn enemy. For an entire hour, we were forced to watch her struggle with the decision whether to tell George about his fiancee and the mayor or not, without even having all the facts. Surely, her animosity towards Lemon and her lingering feelings for Bluebell's golden boy were pushing her towards making the mistake of interfering in this and possibly ruining the lives of three people, but in my opinion it took her way too long to realize it wasn't her place to get even more involved in this triangle than she already was.
To be honest, I found her behavior completely out of character. She's the least judgmental person in that whole town and she's one who really values her friendships. And, let's face it, Lavon is a better friend to her than George is. We haven't even seen her interact with George all that much, except for the Woody Allen festival they went to together, and she even called Lavon her best friend in Bluebell. But I guess her idea that George is the perfect man for her is so strongly implanted in her subconscious that it takes her a while to realize he is getting married to another woman. Thus the petty reactions.
But Zoe's out of character behavior was not the only thing I wasn't crazy about this week. I didn't get the need of putting all that focus on Joelle, a character who wasn't meant to last more than a couple of episodes either way. Yes, it gave the writers the opportunity to show us that there's more to Lemon than the anal, uptight bitch she is on a regular basis. But, as I said before, I would have rather have Lemon squirm and try to keep George from finding out about her fling with Lavon than have her dress up like a tramp and do shots.
And let's talk a little bit about the case of the week, if you will. As a parenthesis, I'd like to see more of the medical stuff and less soap-opera drama in this show, but that's just me. But what I'd mostly like to see if medical cases who do not have to relate to whatever is going on in Zoe's life. Cause, in reality, this never happens. I may be used to House and probably expect a lot more from medical procedurals than cases where the patients think they can talk to aliens and where the town lawyer gives medical advice to the doctor, but hey, at least we get some cases every now and then. But it would be great if they didn't relate to Zoe's drama of the day so much.
So far, this show has been a hit and miss. After a rather good episode, there's always one that makes me ask myself if there's anything other than my weird likeness of Rachel Bilson and my crush on Wilson Bethel that keep me watching it. Let's see how the rest of the season goes.Hart of Dixie 1x13: Sweetie Pies and Sweaty Palms Back to Season 1
