Today’s entry is by request! I was told that this song was a favorite of the late actor Jonathan Brandis, who gained fame in the 90′s science fiction show, SeaQuest. Don’t know who I’m talking about? See an early photo HERE.
Harder to Breathe was released as a single in July of 2002 from the band’s debut album, Songs About Jane. The lyrics were written by frontman Adam Levine but it wasn’t about his ex-girlfriend, Jane. It was actually about the increased pressure the record label was putting on the band to get an album out. Levine once stated that it felt like they were being smothered.
The single went to #18 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and to #31 on the Alternative Songs chart. It was more popular in the UK, making #13. However, it wasn’t as successful in other countries, ranking between 34 and 86. I wonder why they didn’t like it as well?
