Happy Together by The Turtles.

It’s time for another journey into the 60′s and today’s song was also featured in The Wonder Years. I almost couldn’t remember which episode it came from, it was incorrectly listed for the wrong episode on IMDB. I had it down to two episodes and luckily, since I’ve seen the show about a million times, it didn’t take long to find! The song is featured in the beginning of the episode “Night Out”, which is when Kevin and Winnie are invited to a make out party by one of the most popular kids in school. The full episode is available on YouTube, you can watch it HERE.

Happy Together was released in February of 1967 from the band’s fourth album of the same name. It was their biggest hit, knocking The Beatles’ Penny Lane out of the number one spot for three weeks. It went to #12 in the UK.

The lyrics were written by Garry Bonner and Alan Gordon who are former members of the band, The Magicians. The song had been offered to several other groups but was turned down. By the time it got to The Turtles, the demo acetate disc was practically worn out. It’s about unrequited love; the guy wishes the girl would imagine what their life could be if they were together.

Over the years, many artists have covered the song including Weezer, Simple Plan, Donny Osmond, TG Sheppard, and Filter among others. It was also performed on American Idol in 2008 by David Cook.
