Hair Necessities

By Sassysweetstyle @ChaniaB

Growing up, my mother was always very low maintenance.  She rarely wore makeup & only started to dye her hair to cover up grays. While we’ve pinpointed that my shoe obsession was inherited from my Nana, the rest no one has been able to figure out.  Since I love so many girly things, but didn’t have a teacher, I relied on magazines back in the day & now YOUtube videos & Pinterest tutorials to navigate my way through the hair & makeup world.  While I’ve always been able to squeak by with makeup, I have yet to be able to pull off a decent head of hair on my own.  In fact, I have 1 good hair day a month, when I visit my hair magician. :)

One of my goals this is year is to master a hairstyle that looks half-way decent without being in a braid or clip & that doesn’t take 2 hours to complete only to have it fall & look crappy in an hour.  Since I have super fine, naturally curly, tangle prone & chemically processed hair in intense Florida humidity, I have my work cut out for me! Here are some gems I have found that have left me less frustrated with my hair so far. Better tresses here I come! {Hopefully}

One

L’Oreal Elnett Satin Extra Strong Hold Unscented Hairspray

After doing some reading, I discovered that a likely culprit in my hair falling down is that perhaps the hairspray I was using was too heavy for my hair.  I tried this & I love it.  Not only does it hold great, my curls have bounce & shine & I can brush it out without having to shampoo my hair twice to remove it. You can find at Target & most Drugstores.

Two

Sonia Kashuk The Golden Hair Brush

I also read that this was a nice drugstore dupe to one of those pricey brushes out there.  Target had this in a limited edition Gold Metallic color so I scooped it up.  This brush zips through my tangles without a single tug, leaves my hair soft & shiny.  LOVE it!

Three

Style Sexy Hair Texturizing Spray Clay

I received a travel size of this in one of my ipsy bags & I loved it.  It holds styles in place & is so light & easy to brush out without that sticky feel.  I found this at ULTA.

Four

ThermaFuse HeatSmart Serum-Dry Oil Treatment

I had asked my hair magician what she always used on my hair that smelled amazing & this was the stuff.  I use it as heat protectant before going anywhere near my head with a heat tool. This I bought direct from the salon.

Five

Hot Tools Insta-Curl EZ Styler

After discovering that I wasn’t coordinated enough & didn’t want to be bald after trying the clipless curling wands & flat irons to curl my hair, I bought this after reading tons of positive reviews.  I LOVE it.  It curled my hair JUST like on the box & the curls lasted 2 days without kinks, lines, frayed looking ends & minimal product.  Not to mention it did not snag my hair once! {I can’t even get away unscathed with a regular curling iron}  I bought this on sale at ULTA.

Six

Shea Moisture Tahitian Noni & Monoi Smooth & Repair Conditioning Shampoo

I have been using the same shampoo & conditioner for a while & wanted to change it up without breaking the bank.  Since I love Shea Moisture’s body products, I figured I would give their hair care line a whirl.  This smells so good & my hair looked healthier after just one use.  It’s low lather as well. I found this at Target.

Seven

Shea Moisture Tahitian Noni & Monoi Smooth & Repair Rinse-Out Conditioner

The matching conditioner to a fabulous shampoo.  Like I said, I love the smell, my hair looked healthier & it is an affordable Target find.
