I am now coming to the end of my degree show posts. I've made it to three across Scotland and have had a great time sharing my favourites here. So much talent and inspiration out there! For now it's back to Glasgow School of Art to share some of the other non jewelry work that caught my eye.
Fine Art
Being a big film lover I really enjoyed Momo Lee's little cinema space, especially her large painting depicting the audience.
I loved the soft color palette of Lily McGuire's work. I also really liked her plaster cast clothes. It was really interesting seeing something so everyday captured and made so solid.
I liked Joe Pye's work but especially this painting that incorporates a postcard. The colours are so bold and contrast perfectly with the gray wall.
Liu Yiping's work contained a whole lot of hands so of course I was drawn to it. The composition of this piece was excellent, it worked from so many different angles.
Textile
I loved the bright colours and triangles in Meiyan Xu fabric. The raised elements which brought another aspect to the fabrics.
I really liked the way Natalie Wardrope displayed her pieces layered on top of one another. Her fashion illustrations were also very strong and really showed how the textiles would work as garments.
Melissa McFadden's fashion photography was simple but very effective. I loved her bold color choices and the leather fringing.
Nadia Catena also used color beautifully with a mix of brights alongside slightly softer hues. Her photographs worked really well at showing the amazing shape and drape of the textiles.
Unfortunately, yet again, I didn't manage to make it round everything at the Glasgow School of Art but as you can see I still managed to find plenty to get excited about. It was also the first time I've been inside the Mackintosh Building so that was a treat to see, the details were just stunning.
So all in all it's been an excellent degree show season and already I can't wait for next year!
