Greet Your Kids With a Smile: 5 Nutritious Snacks for Your Kids

If you’re a parent, then you know that kids love to snack. It seems that in today’s age, however, all of the children’s snacks at the supermarket come loaded with sugar and high fructose corn syrup. This is a big problem because eating these foods regularly can have adverse consequences on your child’s health. If you are ready to start giving your kids more nutritious foods, then the following snack ideas can get you started in the right direction.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

This can be a very nutritious snack if you have the right ingredients. For example, you don’t want to use that very common white bread that virtually turns to sugar in your mouth. This defeats the purpose of a nutritious snack. Instead, buy whole wheat bread. Also, make sure that your peanut butter is all natural with no preservatives. The jelly is very important to watch out for because this is what will commonly have high fructose corn syrup. If you can’t find a jelly that does not have high fructose corn syrup in your supermarket, then substitute it for a sliced banana or another tasty fruit.

Fruit Smoothie

Fruit smoothies are excellent healthy snacks for kids because they are sweet and nutritious at the same time. You also know exactly what went into them, as you make them yourself! Furthermore, they are very easy to make with any of the commercial blender products on the market. For a nutritious smoothie you can blend some strawberries, pineapples and blueberries in a blender with some apple juice to a liquid consistency. Your kids are sure to drink this up!

Granola Bars

If chosen correctly, granola bars are a filling and nutritious snack for your kids. They are loaded with fiber and many of them contain berries and nuts as well. This is a great mixture of healthy fats and sugars that will keep your little ones going for hours.

Cheese and Crackers

If your kids like savory snacks, then try giving them some cheese on some wheat crackers. This way they get a serving of dairy and some healthy complex carbohydrates in the crackers. Find a kind of cheese that they like, and if they refuse cheese, try cream cheese. In moderation, this is a very good snack.

Celery and Peanut Butter

This can be a great way to get your kids to eat some vegetables. Simply spread some peanut butter inside the groove of a celery stalk and tell your kids to enjoy! If you want to add some fruit, raisins are a great option here.
