Greenore 8 Years Single Grain Irish Whiskey Review

Greenore 8 years Single Grain Irish Whiskey

Greenore 8 years Single Grain Irish Whiskey is the grain whiskey component that goes into Cooley / Killbeggan blended whiskies like KIlbeggan or 2 Gingers. And by that I don’t mean that they only use 8-year-old grain, it’s probably younger, but that it’s the same grain whiskey that ends up in their blends. It also ends up in all of the various blends that Cooley outsourced for over the years when they were owned by the Teelings (1987 – 2011).

But the Teelings don’t own Cooley anymore, it’s now Beam / Suntory so technically this is a Beam / Suntory product. Though before that it was a Beam product since it was bought by Beam in 2011, before the Suntory merger. Now it’s made at Kilbeggan which is what B/S changed the name of the company to (Kilbeggan Distilling Company) while they renovated the old Kilbeggan distillery. But the distilling facility, the location itself where Greenore 8 years Single Grain Irish Whiskey is made, is still called Cooley. Pretty clear ‘eh?

Greenore 8 years Single Grain Irish Whiskey Review – OVERALL

I am not a fan of the Greenore 8 years Single Grain Irish Whiskey. It’s weak, watery and heavy with a waxy sweet grain profile that I can’t bring myself to enjoy. Though really I have a hard time liking any grain whiskeys until they’re well over 30 years due to these overly sweet grain heavy deliveries.

Not to belabor the point too much further but the aroma is so light it’s nearly nonexistent and the flavor comes through the same way with a bit of wax and it’s all served up on a light watery platter. Though I can’t help but wonder what the Greenore 8 years Single Grain Irish Whiskey will be like in coming decades when we can call it a 20, 30 and 40 year… could be really interesting.

SCORE: 67/100 (D+)
