Green Spot Irish Whiskey is a single pot still whiskey that’s aged for 7-10 years which would make it a 7 year whiskey (you always use the lowest aged whiskey in a bottle), but Midleton decided to leave it as a No Age Statement (NAS) whiskey. Which is odd to me because they disclose the 7-10 age range on their site. I guess leaving it as NAS gives them the flexibility to drop it down to a 4-7 year whiskey if stocks get low without a new label approval, but maybe i’m being cynical.
To create the wonderfully robust aroma and flavor that is a delight to drink from start to finish they started with some single pot still distillate and then aged it in a combination of ex-bourbon, refill bourbon and ex-sherry casks. All 3 casks, even the refill, lend something new and interesting to the overall character. This whiskey is part of Midelton’s Single Pot Still whiskey lineup along with Redbreast, MIdleton and Powers and it s a fine fine addition indeed.

NOSE
Warm, sweet, barley heavy pot still with notes of caramel, butterscotch, orchard fruit and some dried berries. A light spice and agave syrup come through towards the end.
PALATE
The barley heavy pot still character is a bit lighter here than on the nose, but still very present along with notes of dried fruit, caramel, spice and honey drizzled granola. Some light notes of tangerine like citrus zest come and go.
FINISH
Long and malty with notes of fruit, dark sweets and a touch of oak.
BALANCE, BODY & FEEL
Good balance with a warm round body and a smooth slick texture.
OVERALL
Green Spot Irish Whiskey is a tasty whiskey with a lot of great character to it. Warm sweet malty nose and palate make for something that is fun to drink and tasty. It’s overall a touch light, but that single pot still character is present and tasty. I can’t help but enjoy it.
