Clients come to me with a range of different issues they’d like to resolve. It might be psoriasis, weight loss, arthritis, IBS, fertility or autoimmune. Sometimes it’s skin conditions such as acne, dry or greasy skin.
Skin conditions occur when there is an imbalance in the body. Sometimes it can be because toxins aren’t being flushed out properly so try to escape through the skin.
Oily skin is caused by overactive sebaceous glands that are affected by a variety of stimuli including hormones, and hormones are very much affected by our diet.
Sugar: when refined sugar is ingested it causes an immediate spike in your insulin levels. This spike has been described as “a burst of inflammation throughout the body.” Not only does this age the skin but it can disrupt hormones causing overactive glands which means greasy skin for you. Orange, red and purple fruits and veggies are high in vitamin A and other skin loving antioxidants so increase those and eliminate sugars from ice cream, candy, fizzy drinks, ketchup and jam.
Saturated/inflammatory fats: Acne and skin conditions are rare in populations who eat diets rich in omega-3 fats, according to a report published in “Lipids in Health and Disease” in 2012. Saturated and trans fats, can cause oily, inflamed and acne-ridden skin. Foods high in saturated fats include fatty meats, such as steaks and bacon; high-fat dairy products, such as whole milk; and fried foods. Not all saturated fat is unhealthy, but switch the bad ones out for essential fats instead. These include nuts, seeds, avocado, coconut and cold pressed oils.
Refined grains: refined grains lose fiber when they are processed. Fibre is essential for balancing hormones! If you want to sort your hormones out, you will up your fiber intake quick smart! Refined grains have a high glycemic index, which will impact your blood sugar as we discussed earlier. Avoid refined grains such as white bread, pretzels and instant rice and replace them with whole grains like quinoa, brown rice and air popped popcorn.
Zinc and vitamins C, A and D play a massive part in the health of your skin. Eat a clean, wholefoods diet full of fresh fruits and berries, veggies like sweet potatoes, squash, greens, corn, tomatoes, peppers, spices, fresh herbs, some wholegrain and lots of water and you’ll see your skin changing before your very eyes.
My clients have been raving about their sexy skin. Check it out:
“I’ve suffered for years with such greasy skin and used all sorts of make up and now my skin is clear and I’ve hardly for any make up on!”
“Another health discovery! Love them! My skin isn’t greasy anymore! I’ve just realised that I’m not shoving powder on it every couple of hours like i used to!”
The proof is very much in the fresh fruit pudding
