The Mountain View company has announced a new acquisition, that of Quickoffice, a company that publishes office suite for Smartphones and tablets.

Today, consumers, businesses and schools using Google Apps to work from anywhere, with anyone and on any device. Quickoffice has an established track record in the provision of interoperability smoothly with popular formats. We will work to integrate their powerful technology to our suite of Apps”. Google wrote on his blog, while announcing the new redemption of Quickoffice.

The transaction amount was not revealed. What we do know, however, is that Google will integrate solutions Quickoffice natively in Android.

The purpose of the search giant is multiple: it relies primarily enrich the catalog of applications available for its mobile operating system, but also develop a software environment capable of meeting the challenges of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device).

400 million users

Quickoffice, which celebrated its 15 years of existence”, boasts more than 400 million users (on Android, Symbian and iOS). Its solutions are compatible with as many open formats that proprietary formats (including Microsoft), and its office suite offers synchronization features and file sharing via storage in the clouds of Dropbox, Evernote, Google Docs, SugarSync and MobileMe.

Following Quickoffice is free. It also comes in a Pro to 14.99 dollars (this version offers the following additional options: multilingual spell checker, annotating PDF files, support for Zip archives, published by e-mail, etc..).

Obviously, the king of online research decided to proceed on the mobility sector, without waiting for the release of a hypothetical mobile version of Microsoft Office suite (persistent rumors have been circulating for several months this issue).
