Goodbye and Amen by American Girls.

R-1385397-1215100314I stumbled across this on YouTube this morning. Though I’ve never heard of the group, it was the songwriter’s name that caught my eye – Aimee Mann. I had no idea she had given some of her songs away for other artists to do. Every day it seems I find out something new about her or her old band, ‘Til Tuesday.

Apparently American Girls started out as unsuccessful film project but with more rehearsals, they were signed to IRS records which was the same label another girl group, The Go-Go’s, was under. The band featured music veterans Brie Howard who had previously played drums for Fanny and Miiko Watanabe who played bass for the Screamin’ Sirens.

They only recorded one album which was intended as a demo, but later pressed to vinyl in its original form. The album, self-titled, was released in 1986. The image to the left is the single promo.
