So we are coming to the end of 2012. The year seems to have gone by in a flash but I've enjoyed it none the less. Unfortunately, looking back at my Things to Do in 2012 post, it seems I haven't managed to cross a lot off. Buying a house is in progress as we decorate our flat for selling, blogging regularly didn't really happen as the number of posts fell compared to 2011, London was the furthest I traveled and I only managed to make a trailer instead of the short film I had planned.
I've decided not to dwell on the stuff I didn't manage to do and instead celebrate the things I did. Here are some of my highlights:Opening an Etsy shop. At the start of the year I moved my shop off of my website and onto Etsy. This meant re doing all my product photos and descriptions but I'm pretty sure it was worth it. Now customers get to see my items in bigger, brighter pictures and can see more than one image.
Getting a new full time job. Though the job isn't anything special it is good having a steady income. It means I'm less stressed about money and have managed to do lots of fun things like go on trips around Scotland and down to London, buy new clothes and develop new products for Jolly Good.
FINALLY buying a new pair of glasses. I've had them for nearly a year but I still love my cat eye lovelies from Spex Pistols. I have had so many compliments on these and they are much more exciting than my previous pair.Going to lots and lots of degree shows. This was one of my favorite things to do (and blog about) in 2012. Degree shows are always super inspiring and a great introduction to lots of new designers and artists. I also managed to attend some events put on by current students from DJCAD so I'm especially looking forward to seeing their graduate collections in the not so distant future.
Designing a winter collection. I've always liked the idea of designing in collections but have never been able to get organised enough to do the whole S/S, A/W thing. This year though I worked super hard to create a little collection of winter jewelry and accessories. I was rather pleased with them and they seemed to go down well, especially my new temporary tattoos. It is definitely my aim to design like this through out 2013, but I'm not making any promises.
And finally...working with metal. I attended two jewelry classes this year; ECA's 'Jewellery: Precious Metals and Sandcasting' and Vanilla Ink's 'Make your own xmas presents'. Both gave me the chance to work in silver and I was super pleased with the results. This is something I'm looking to do more of and I can't wait to find some new classes for 2013.
Hope you all had a great 2012 and here's to 2013 being even better!
