UK chillwave / sadhouse mastermind Gold Panda released EP online today, with a charming lead single called “We Work Nights.” It’s got the standard GP feel: four-on-the-floor kick, compressed 808 clap, gently sampled strings and marimbas, and plenty of ambient noise. Given that the producer uses the same formula so often you’d think it would get tiring, but somehow “Nights” stays fresh. A vertiginous sitar slides in halfway through the tune and is joined by a chorus of flutes and guitars that create much of the home-y, MPC-fireplace feel for which Panda is known.
