God Or No God?

Posted on the 11 March 2014 by Tasneem Rajkotwala @tasu0704

It’s been a decade since I read Angels and Demons . Last week when I was  taking a quick stroll in a book shop, I found this book on one of the shelves. I remember how hooked I was to this book few years back. I would read and re-read it day and night. One book, that I’ve read so far, shakes me from within. I am not going to review the book, but in all senses write what I learned from it, what I truly believe in. Many have views on science and religion. Islam too does. For example, taken from the book  ‘From Adam to Muhammed’ (a book from a local author in Mumbai) says “Darwin’s theory of evolution was propounded in the early days of Queen Victoria. His theory proposes that homo sapiens came out of a germ, passing through so many stages of evolution. The theory doesn’t solve Who created so many things of the Universe with their intrinsic properties and process of movements making evolution possible.” When his theory itself does not choose to discuss Who and Why, I strongly feel somewhere even science does believe in the Creator.

We all worship different Gods with different names. We were always taught in schools that God is one which is also mentioned in different scriptures of many holy books. Then why discriminate? The  galaxy, the mountains, the sky, humans, animals are nothing but the creation of one and only one supreme power. He created and sustains everything. We don’t need any proof of His presence, do we? The fact we are living today in this beautiful world provides answers to every question! This question was more powerfully answered when I became a mother and gave birth to my son. While I was expecting, I would sit to think for hours about what is going inside my body. What is making my little baby grow from the size of a kidney bean to taking its human shape, forming eyes, hands and feet. When I finally had him in my arms, it felt like a miracle and  my faith strengthened even more. I definitely believe there is a supreme power above, guiding us and leading us through this life. I am not the enlightened one who can explain people who God really is or what He really wants from us. I certainly have faith and this is the faith which help me survive every time, every moment of the day.

I strongly believe in the strength of a prayer. Many of us, offer prayers in different ways, in different manners. We all know, ll these prayers reach one and only, Himself. Muslims go to mosques, Christians to Churches, Hindus to Temples, Sikhs to Gurudwara, Parsis to Fire Temples. We may go to different places and it is certain that the one who listens to these prayers is no one but God. Not all prayers are answered but we still are left with what is best suited to us. When I feel my prayers are not being answered, I keep reminding myself of the quote I read once “God has editing rights over our prayers. He will… edit them, correct them, bring them in line with His will and then hand them back to us to be resubmitted.” - (Stephen Crotts)

God is much much more than I could ever write here. I didn’t even thought I’d be writing this post until I click the publish button on my blog. I may not go out wearing Hijab , may not read Quran daily, may not even offer 5 daily prayers, what I strongly believe is in the “divine connection”. Connection between Him and every mankind.Connection between Him and me, which will guide me through every path of life.I know He is around me watching every step I take and at the same time has His eyes on everyone else too with each breath they take! He wants me to do things my way, learn from my mistakes and when I am about to fall hard, He picks me up and balances everything. That’s the power I trust in.

He has created everything in opposites – Heaven and hell, good and evil, angels and demons. We all know by now, whatever we do has a counter effect. Believe in karma, do good to other so that goodness is returned to you. Help others so that there will  be someone to help you when you need it. Be nice and gentle so that others are polite to you.

Its sad to see people fight in the name of religion. No religion, no faith ever teaches a man to fight with the man of another religion or belief. These are misconceptions which itself is a brain work of the ones who disregard humanity that leads to war amongst mankind. What do we get converting people from their religion and faith? I believe, God is simply happy when someone remembers him, be it anyone. He, Himself doesn’t imposes religion, so who are we?
