During our Christmas break whilst surfing through various news feeds on Facebook we came across a post highlighting ‘ The Wedding Wishing Well Foundation‘.
With so many worthy charities out there doing marvelous work – making a choice of who to support was a challenge. Upon reading more about this charity, its foundation and its work, we we knew it was the one for us. The Wedding Wishing Well supports those fighting terminally illness, along with helping them organize their own weddings.
Wanting to make 2016 different to previous years working as wedding photographers, this is the best way for us to give something back. Sharing something beautiful and precious – treasured memories in timeless photography.
As a couple about to get married ourselves, we support the great work of this charity by offering our services free of charge.
Cancer in the headlines
The first few weeks of 2016 have been marked in the media by the passing of three great high profile people from Cancer – Lemmy from Motorhead, David Bowie and most recently Alan Rickman.
Their passing commanded media attention within the headlines due to their public profiles, three national treasures losing their battles with cancer. The swathes of fans who publicly identified with them have lost their heroes, yet there are many more people fighting their own private battles.
Latest statistics suggest that half of the UK population will suffer from the disease at some point. At any given time, there are around 2.5 million people in the UK living with a cancer diagnosis.
Cancer rates are increasing at 3% per year, so if this rate continues, around four million of us could be diagnosed with the disease by 2030.
Supporting for the Wedding Wishing Well Foundation and offering our photography to couples wishing to tie the knot is a small gesture.
Naomi Thomas, a wedding planner from Somerset started the organisation in 2009 when her own world was turned upside down with the news that she had Breast Cancer.
She was desperate to get married, however the financial burden that cancer brings to a family meant this wasn’t possible. Then in 2011 a fellow wedding planner stepped in offering to help find wedding suppliers who would work for free.
In June 2012 Naomi married and went on to use her experience in setting up the Wedding Wishing Well Foundation in 2012.
The foundation has all manner of wedding industry professionals listing their wedding services for free, along with being a registered charity looking for public support in assisting couples wishing to have their dream wedding day.
